It’s been awhile since my last post but I have been so busy wrapping up the end of the semester!
This past weekend I had the opportunity to meet up with a friend from home who had a layover in London. She spent the week visiting her sister in Dublin and ended up having an overnight layover at Gatwick. So I packed a bag and hopped on a bus!
This story really begins on Friday night when I went out to celebrate the last day of class! I met up with some friends and headed to a student planned event on campus. It turned out to be quite fun! However, I didn’t feel that great the next morning, in addition to already feeling sick from a cold. But nonetheless I got up and made it to the bus station!
The bus from Colchester to the airport was completely full! It was all students going home or travelling for the month long Easter break. For some reason the ride to Stansted airport was very slow which delayed my arrival to Heathrow airport. I was a little stressed out because I did not think I would be able to transfer to the other bus that would take me to Gatwick airport. But to my surprise the bus I needed to transfer to pulled up right in front of us as we approached the station! perfect timing 🙂
So I got on the bus to Gatwick which was still about 1.5hours away. This bus stopped at two other terminals within Heathrow which I didn’t mind because I was able to see planes landing and taking off!
After travelling on the bus all afternoon I finally made it to my destination! I met up with my friend and we took a taxi to a nearby hotel. I was super hungry so we had dinner at the hotel’s restaurant which was super cute and had delicious food! It was really nice to catch up with my friend, even if it was only for the evening. I kept thinking how weird it was that we were both on the other side of the world at the same time!!
The hotel bed was SO comfy compared to my old and worn down mattress at the student accomomdation! The pillows were also thick and fluffy so I was basically in heaven! I did not want to get out of bed in the morning hahah. But since the sun rose around 5:45 am I was woken up by the natural light. Fortunately, I got a nice picture of the sunrise!!
I said goodbye to my friend and we went our separate ways. My bus didn’t leave for 45 minutes so I treated myself to breakfast.(which was delicious)
This time the bus went into London where I had to transfer busses at the Victoria station. I was able to see parts of London that I probably wouldn’t otherwise. The bus was slightly delayed because there was a half-marathon that same morning so some roads were closed off. The bus actually went past some of the runners which was cool to see! After a 4 hour journey, and two busses I finally made it back to Colchester! It was a quick trip, with most of it spent on a bus. But I actually enjoyed it because I was able to see rural to urban and everything in between! It also prepared my for my next trip to Gatwick airport which I will be taking in less than 2 weeks! I’m so excited!!
Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed
